Organizers of the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard Apprentice Job Fair set for Saturday say they expect 3,000 job seekers to apply for roughly 100 available positions.

Successful applicants will begin a four-year program at the Peal Harbor Shipyard. The program, facilitated by Honolulu Community College, pays the students apprentice wages averaging more than $16 an hour as they work on a tuition-free associate degree.

The job fair will be held from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at the Marine Education & Training Center, 10 Sand Island Access Road. For more information, call 474-9216 or go to acep.hawaii.navy.mil.

Wailea luxury project set to go

A development partnership involving Honolulu-based Coastal Construction Co. has announced plans to begin construction of 38 single-family luxury homes at Maui's Wailea Resort.

The project, called Kanani Wailea, is one of several residential subdivisions under development at the master-planned resort.

Pacific Land & Homes LLC bought an 8.4-acre site for Kanani Wailea in January for $4.5 million from an affiliate of Alexander & Baldwin Inc. The project is scheduled to begin in the next month or two. The first homes are expected to be finished by year-end.

A Pacific Land representative said prospective buyers have signed contracts to buy all the homes, which are priced at about $1.2 million.
