Tonight's Must-See

  • "Eyes" debut, 9:02 p.m., ABC. ABC has been hot, propelled by the brilliance of "Lost" and the fun of "Desperate Housewives." Now it debuts "Eyes," a great private-eye show. This is set at a modern detective firm with high-tech equipment and big-money clients. Still, it all comes down to the smarts of the agency chief (Tim Daly) and his people. They have lots of it, since John McNamara is the writer and producer. "Eyes" shows the brilliance he hinted at in writing "Profit." Tim Daly is the perfect conduit, flashing some wondrous monologues. His staff is stuffed with great actors — especially Rick Worthy, who has great moments as Chris, big, bald, gay and macho. Daly's detectives are whip-smart — and at least one of them is a mole working against him. This first hour is filled with twists and turns and detours. Hang on.

Of Note

  • "Lost," 7 p.m., ABC. Here's the show that sparks ABC's strong Wednesday lineup. In a new episode, medical problems pop up involving the scary Sawyer and the all-knowing Locke.
  • "American Dreams," 7 p.m., NBC. This is the last show of the season — and maybe the last ever — for this above-average show. Tonight's focus is on Meg (Brittany Snow), the teenager who combines family warmth and an anti-war fervor. Her boyfriend Chris has been drafted. She must decide whether to leave her family and help him duck the draft.
  • "Invasion Iowa," 7, 9 p.m., Spike TV. As this elaborate practical joke continues, William Shatner and his crew pretend to be inept and egotistical. A complication comes when one of the townspeople seems to sense a hoax.
  • "The West Wing," 8 p.m., NBC. The Republicans are looking well-organized while the Democrats remain in disarray. Now the president asks Leo to organize the convention.
  • "American Idol," 8 p.m., Fox. A third finalist is voted out.
  • "Alias," 8:01 p.m., ABC. Marshall — a tech guy, not a spy — has to rescue Sydney.
  • "Life on a Stick," 8:30 p.m., Fox. Last week's debut was delayed a day because of the "American Idol" foul-up. Now here's the second episode. It's another funny one, with the teens getting new jobs in a terribly cramped mall spot.
