9-year-old knows how to get adults moving
Nine-year-old Nicole Rapozo of Lihu'e was bothered enough by doorless bathroom stalls at her school that she did something about it. She wrote a letter to the governor.
As it turns out, a lot of adults thought the lack of doors was a problem, too, and a bathroom renovation project already was in the works for this summer.
We suspect Nicole might think the adults are acting a little too slowly on this project, and we would agree. And indeed, most adults don't have to suffer the same indignities in their workplaces.
Nicole has set a good lesson in civic responsibility for all of us. She saw a problem, and instead of just complaining or getting mad, she did something productive to change the situation.
If more students let elected officials and the public know about problems in their schools, who knows what might get accomplished?
