20 tech ventures win financing

The Hawaii Technology Development Venture yesterday said it awarded $4 million to help 20 proposed technology development and demonstration projects.

Created in 2004 the program aims to help small businesses develop technology for Navy and Department of Defense programs. Companies selected include: NanoPoint, Innovative Technical Solutions, Referentia Systems and Trex Enterprises.

The program is financed by the Office of Naval Research and administered by the Pacific International Center for High Technology Research.



Gas hits record high in Honolulu

The average price for regular gasoline in Honolulu rose more than a penny to a record $2.355 a gallon yesterday, according to the AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report. The previous record was $2.348 a gallon.

Statewide, the average price for regular was $2.443, while in Wailuku, Maui, the price was $2.629 a gallon. In Hilo, the average for regular was $2.474 a gallon, which was nearly 4 cents below a November record.
