Bay Area DJ takes over Hula's party tonight

DJ Ellen Ferrato is a marquee name in Bay Area clubs, spinning at many of the best house music parties in a metropolis with no shortage of 'em. Ferrato is ranked No. 3 in a top 10 DJ poll by the Web-based international nightlife watcher Nightvibe.
She'll be spinning her signature blend of funk-flavored house tonight at Hula's Bar & Lei Stand's Last Thursdays monthly. Entry is $3 for residents, $7 for out-of-towners. From 9 p.m. to 2 a.m., 134 Kapahulu Ave., second floor. Call 923-0669.
The results indicate pets receive preferential treatment as they become more important as members of the household. For example:
• 93 percent are likely to risk their own life for their pet, while 64 percent of owners would expect their pet to come to their rescue if they were in distress. • 82 percent think of their pet more than once while they are away during the day. • If they were deserted on an island and could choose only one companion, 50 percent would pick a dog or cat. • When asked, "Who listens to you best?" 45 percent choose their pet, while only 30 percent choose their spouse or significant other. A survey of 1,238 pet owners, conducted by the American Animal Hospital Association, reveals that 70 percent of pet owners say they break household rules with their pets when their partners are not present, Knight Ridder News Service reports.
