Change of course led to his ace

Navy-Marine Golf Course
Hole No. 12, 178 yards, 8-iron

We were four high school classmates (Kamehameha '70) who have played golf many times in the past.Ê

Ted Kesaji, Jonny Wong, Darrell Ing and I had a morning tee time at Leilehua Golf Course.

Since it was a bit rainy, we decided to play at the Hickam par-3. We planned to meet at Navy-Marine Golf Course, and since I am retired from the Army, I would be the "taxi" to Hickam.

Upon arriving at Navy-Marine, we changed our plans again and decided to play there instead.Ê

On the 12th hole, I teed off first, played an 8-iron, and hoped for some help from the wind.ÊI swung one of those golf swings where you don't feel the ball being struck, and the follow through is balanced and effortless.Ê

The ball landed near the front of the green, took a small bounce, rolled about 12 feet and dropped in the hole.

I was so glad that we changed our minds twice and played at Navy-Marine that day.
