May events honor military

May is Hawai'i Military Appreciation Month. The Chamber of Commerce of Hawai'i and the local business community are sponsoring events for the public:

• Salute To The Troops, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today, Bishop Museum, games, entertainment, food booths; $3 admission, military free.

• 9th Annual Twilight Tattoo, 4 p.m. Saturday at Fort DeRussy, concert by the Army's Tropic Lightning Band, Pacific Fleet Band, Air Force Band of the Pacific, Marine Corps Band of the Pacific and Hawai'i's 11th Army National Guard Band; free.

• Combined Military Band Concert, 7 p.m. May 14, Hawai'i Theatre, featuring Hawai'i's top military musicians playing music from Broadway musicals, marches, classics and pops; free.

• Annual Military Recognition Luncheon, noon to 1:30 p.m. May 18 at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Hotel, an opportunity for the public to welcome home Hawai'i's returning heroes and recognize military community service awardees; tickets available.
