Key House votes

1. Abortion

The House voted 270-157 for a bill that would make it illegal to take minors across state lines for an abortion to try to get around parental consent laws. The bill now goes to the Senate for action.

  • Hawai'i votes: Neil Abercrombie (D) NAY; Ed Case (D) NAY

2. Ethics

The House voted 406-20 to restore its previous ethics rules after Democrats had blocked the ethics panel from conducting business, saying the new rules were unfair.

3. Budget resolution

The House passed 214-211 a budget blueprint that calls for cutting spending for Medicaid healthcare programs for the poor and cutting taxes.

The Senate passed 52-47 a budget blueprint that calls for cutting Medicaid spending and cutting taxes.

What's ahead

The Senate is on a one-week break. The House is expected to take up bills that would increase the federal deposit insurance limit and reauthorize the Perkins vocational education program.
