Young leads record charge

Sophomore Kelly Young set her second Cooke Field record in as many days as the host University of Hawai'i women's track and field team concluded a two-day all-comers meet last night.
Young ran the 800-meter run in 2 minutes, 6.53 seconds to eclipse her own school (2:06.87) and Cooke Field (2:07.07) records. On Monday, the Australia native ran the 600 in 1:30:71 to beat her Cooke Field record of 1:33.08.
Also last night, sophomore Patricia Gauthier pole vaulted 12 feet, 6 inches, setting both Cooke Field and UH records; and junior Novelle Murray threw the hammer 180 feet to set a Cooke Field mark.
On Monday, sophomore Dana Buchanan broke a 24-year-old Cooke Field record when she clocked 4:30.14 in the 1,500. She also owns Cooke Field records in the 1,000 and mile.
