UH-Hilo tennis in regionals

Mai Fujii and Tiana Lum-Tucker won singles matches yesterday to help the University of Hawai'i-Hilo women's tennis team defeat visiting Hawai'i Pacific, 5-2, and clinch a berth in the NCAA Division II West Regionals in San Diego.

Fujii beat Tina Klep, 6-3, 6-1, and Lum-Tucker topped Cecilia Lundberg, 6-2, 6-2.



GOLF

UH moves up to 8th

Jarett Hamamoto slipped from second to fifth, but the University of Hawai'i men's team moved up a notch to eighth in the Western Athletic Conference Championships yesterday at Choudrant, La.

Hamamoto shot a 4-over 76 and stands at 148 entering today's final round. Southern Methodist's Will Dodson shot 71—143 to take a one-stroke lead over Louisiana Tech's Derek Busby.

Hawai'i shot 314 for a two-day total of 631. Tulsa leads the 10-team field with 601.



Mason lifts UH-Hilo

Nick Mason shot a 6-under-par 66 yesterday, moving himself and the University of Hawai'i-Hilo men's golf team into third place at the NCAA Division II Northwest/West Super Regional at Dakota Dunes, S.D.

Mason is at even-par 144 and trails co-leaders Tim Feenstra of Western Washington and Andy Moren of Cal State-Stanislaus by one stroke.

Western Washington leads the 12-team team field with 596. Chico State is second at 613, followed by UH-Hilo at 615.
