Tonight's Must-See

"SpongeBob SquarePants" season opener, 5:30 p.m., Nickelodeon. Our hero is the cheeriest sponge in the ocean. Even his new work schedule (24 hours a day) at the hamburger joint delights him. He doesn't know it's an evil scheme. In the second story, he must impersonate his tough-crab boss at a military reunion. Both stories are cleverly written with delightful animation. Few TV heroes have been as amiable — or as absorbent — as SpongeBob.

"Third Watch" finale, 8 p.m., NBC. Some shows disappear casually, but not this one. A gang has attacked the precinct station and set it on fire. As the gunfight continues, Cruz (Tia Texada) and Monroe (Nia Long) are trapped inside. Meanwhile, the dangerous Marcel (Wyclef Jean) has escaped. In a separate story, Carlos nervously plans to propose to Levine. There's more, including a wrap-up on what has happened to past characters. Eddie Cibrian, Kim Raver, Michael Beach and Aidan Quinn all return.

Of Note

"Enterprise," 4 p.m., UPN. This show is just a week from the series finale. The story starts tonight with Peter Weller as a rebel leader who is trying to stop a peaceful coalition of worlds.

"Rush Hour 2" (2001), 7 p.m., Fox. Vacationing in Hong Kong, Chris Tucker ends up fighting crime again with Jackie Chan in this sequel. They chase a crime boss to Los Angeles and Las Vegas.

"Hope & Faith," 8 p.m., ABC. The season finale has Faith (Kelly Ripa) romancing the handsome host (Dean Cain) of the TV show she hosts. That leaves questions about her feelings for Gooch (played by Ripa's real-life husband, Mark Consuelos). Meanwhile, Hope has trouble with her catering partner, Grace.

"Numb3rs," 9 p.m., CBS. There are UFO reports but this might indicate a terrorist plot.

"Law & Order: Trial by Jury," 9 p.m., NBC. Prosecutors hit a crisis when a father (Giancarlo Esposito) and son (Victor Rasuk) confess to the same murder.
