Cataluna, 38, suffered a seizure Monday night after going into labor to deliver her first child. Doctors performed an emergency Caesarean section and delivered a baby girl.

The baby was taken to Kapi'olani Medical Center for Women and Children, where she remains in its intensive-care unit.

"Lee and our little girl are fighters," said Jim Kelly, Cataluna's husband. "The people at Queen's and Kapi'olani are the best, and I know with the help of everyone's prayers and good thoughts that they'll pull through."

Cataluna joined The Advertiser in November 2000 after a career in television. She is a noted playwright, author and community volunteer.
