Memorial Day lei needed for graves

Fifty thousand lei are needed on May 27 for placement on the graves of veterans in time for Memorial Day. The lei will be placed by Boy Scouts at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific and at all state veterans cemeteries.

All lei must be made of fresh flowers or ti leaves and must be 20 to 24 inches long before tying. All lei must be tied. Floral sprays such as ti leaf and anthurium bouquets are also welcome.

Loose plumeria blossoms can also be dropped off on May 26.

Blossoms or lei may be dropped off:

  • From 8 a.m. to noon at the Department of Parks & Recreation Parks Permit Section, on the ground floor of the Municipal Building in Honolulu.
  • From 9 to 11:30 a.m. at Ala Wai Community Park, Halawa District Park, Makua Ali'i Senior Center, Wai'anae District Park, Wahiawa District Park, Waiau District Park, Waipahu District Park, Kane'ohe Community and Senior Center, Waikiki Community Center or Kapolei Hale, Room 309.
  • From 6 a.m. to noon at the following fire stations: Kalihi No. 6, Waipahu No. 12, Waialua No. 14, Kane'ohe No. 17, Kailua No. 18, Waimanalo No. 27 and Hawai'i Kai No. 34.

The Mayor's Memorial Day Service will be at 8:30 a.m. on Memorial Day, May 30, at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific.
