BUSINESS BRIEFS
ML Macadamia narrows losses

Advertiser Staff

Hilo-based ML Macadamia Orchards LP yesterday said it lost $27,000 in the first quarter ended March 31, versus a loss of $95,000, or a penny a share, in the year-ago period.

The loss was mainly a result of the unusual timing of the annual macadamia crop, the company said.

Quarter-to-quarter results improved because of a higher nut price estimate and a larger nut harvest.

Gas price hits another high

The statewide average cost for regular gasoline rose to a record $2.545 a gallon, according to yesterday's AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report.

In Honolulu the average was $2.449 a gallon. In Wailuku, Maui, regular gas averaged $2.789 a gallon, while in Hilo on the Big Island, it averaged $2.605 a gallon.

Business travel leaders convene

Business travel leaders from across the country are gathering in Honolulu for a meeting of the National Business Travel Association's Chapter Presidents Council.

The council is composed of the presidents of 48 local and regional business travel associations across the United States, all of which are chapters of the NBTA.

Kevin M. Iwamoto, chairman and past president of NBTA, was to address the council during the two-day meeting that began yesterday. Iwamoto, a Honolulu native, is based in Palo Alto, Calif., as Global Airline, Car & Ground Commodity manager for the Hewlett-Packard Co.
