BYUH women win tennis regional

The top-ranked Brigham Young-Hawai'i women's tennis team defeated Cal Poly-Pomona yesterday, 5-0, to win the NCAA II West Regional Tournament and advance to the national tournament.
The Seasiders are 26-0 this season and increased their winning streak to 127 consecutive dual matches.
The Seasiders swept the doubles matches as Tetyana Bula and Petra Teller rallied from a 1-4 deficit to win the next seven games for an 8-4 victory. Gurianna Korinihona and Crystal Schwenke also claimed an 8-4 doubles win. The Seasiders top duo of Jing Jing Liu and Adrienn Hegedus, ranked No. 1 in the nation, took an 8-2 win.
Korinihona earned the Seasiders' fourth point of the day with a 6-2, 6-1 singles win over Ellyn Caprara. Teller closed out the match with a 6-1, 6-0 singles victory over Jenny Tsai. BYU-Hawai'i was leading in the four other singles matches when play was stopped.
The Seasiders will open the NCAA II tournament Wednesday in Altamonte Springs, Fla.
In addition, the Hawai'i-Hilo men's and women's teams will compete at UC San Diego today in another NCAA II West Region Championship.
Nakamura leads Hickam
Wade Nakamura shot a 1-under-par 71 for a one-stroke lead after the first round of the Hickam Invitational yesterday at Mamala Bay Golf Course.
Nakamura leads Clayton Gomi and Tod Terada, who shot 72s. Gomi's round included a hole-in-one on the 174-yard second hole.
Tom Goodbody leads the senior division after a 74.
The second round of the 54-hole tournament is today.
Kamehameha wins
Kamehameha defeated Punahou, 9-7, last night at Iolani pool to win the Interscholastic League of Honolulu Division I girls water polo tournament.
The Warriors face Punahou, the regular-season champion, again on Monday at Iolani for the overall championship.
Iolani defeated Pac-Five, 9-4, for third place.
Kona billfish event set
The 46th annual Hawaiian International Billfish Tournament is scheduled for July 31 to Aug. 7 at Kailua, Kona.
Teams from around the world including Tahiti, Japan, Australia and the United States are expected for the contest.
