Hawai'i Marine killed in Afghanistan

A 22-year-old Marine from the Hawai'i-based 3rd Batallion, 3rd Marine Regiment was killed in action Sunday in Afghanistan.The Pentagon said Cpl. Richard P. Schoener of Hayes, La. was killed during combat operations in the Alishang District of Lagham Province. No other details were released.
Schoener was an infantry rifleman assigned to Company K.
Schoener joined the Marines in September 2001. He received infantry training and security force training. He has been with his current unit at Marine Corps Base, Hawai'i since Aug. 3, 2004.
Schoener deployed to Afghanistan on Nov. 11, 2004.
He was born in Pottsville, Pa.
