Man acquitted in harbor stabbing death

By Ken Kobayashi

A 30-year-old man was found not guilty this morning of murder in the stabbing of a fellow crew member aboard a fishing vessel at Honolulu Harbor last year.

Bosco Reo testified he acted in self-defense and thought Teraoi Ibeari was armed during a fight aboard the Katherine II Nov. 30 last year.

Both men are from Kiribati and were on the Katherine II tied up here for repairs.

The jury also had the option of returning a manslaughter verdict, but deliberated a total of about two full days before rejecting both murder and manslaughter charges and acquitting Reo.

Reo has been held on $500,000 bail. He was arrested about three hours after the stabbing.
