Pelosi sentenced for Maui assault

WAILUKU, Maui — Convicted killer Daniel Pelosi of New York was sentenced yesterday to a five-year prison term for punching a waiter during a dinner cruise aboard the Maui Princess on Jan. 18, 2004.

The prison term will run concurrently with the sentence of 25 years to life Pelosi already is serving for the October 2001 murder of East Hampton, N.Y. millionaire Theodore Ammon. Pelosi, a former Long Island electrician, married Ammon's widow, Generosa, three months after her husband's death. She died of cancer in 2003.

He was convicted of second-degree assault in the Maui case, and appeared from New York via teleconference for sentencing by 2nd Circuit Judge Joseph Cardoza. Pelosi was accused of grabbing cruise waiter Larry Gronau by the neck and punching him in the face after Gronau decided to stop serving alcohol to Pelosi's female companion. Gronau suffered facial fractures.

Messages lead to suspect's arrest

A 44-year-old Kailua man was arrested Saturday after he allegedly left more than 20 voicemail messages on his former girlfriend's cellular telephone Friday and Saturday threatening to harm her.

The former girlfriend reported the incident at Kailua police station.

Police identified the man, found him and arrested him on suspicion of first-degree terroristic threatening.
