POLICE BEAT
Bogus check nets arrest

Advertiser Staff

A 21-year-old Kapolei woman was arrested about 4:10 p.m. yesterday after she allegedly tried to cash a forged check at a check-cashing business on Wilikina Drive across from the McComb Gate at Schofield Barracks.

A store worker became suspicious when the woman tried to cash a $1,000 check drawn on the account of a Honolulu woman and called police, who contacted the account holder.

The account owner told police she had not issued the check to the woman who was trying to cash it. The woman holding the bogus check was arrested on suspicion of second-degree forgery.

The fire, which was reported about 4:10 a.m., was put out in short order but not before damaging a paint, silver recovery and sheet metal shop.

There were no injuries. A damage estimate and cause of the blaze has not yet been determined.
