Man charged in robbery spree

An 18-year-old man was charged yesterday in connection with four robberies over a two-day period in the Makiki and Punchbowl areas.

Jarrett Lee, who listed no local address, was charged with one count of first-degree robbery, three counts of second-degree robbery, one count of first-degree terroristic threatening and one count of third-degree assault. He was being held in a police cell block last night on $80,000 bail.

Lee was arrested Tuesday afternoon after two students told police they were robbed at knifepoint fronting Roosevelt High School. The students said the man threatened them with a knife and then got into a fight with them.

The man fled, but was later arrested by police. While in custody, police identified Lee as a suspect in two other robberies of students near Maryknoll High School on Monday.



Suspect sought in assault, robbery

Police are asking for the public's help in identifying a man who beat and robbed a woman Saturday in Waikiki.

The 29-year-old woman said she was walking in the parking lot of 2421 Ala Wai Blvd. about 9:30 p.m. when she was confronted by a man near a side gate to Tusitala Street. Police said the man punched her several times on the head and kicked her after she fell.

The man took the woman's purse and began to run away, but police said he returned and further assaulted the woman. The man was last seen running toward the Ala Wai Canal.

The man is described as in his 20s, 5 feet 10 and 200 pounds with a heavy build and tan complexion. Police said he had long, black hair, brown eyes and was wearing a white T-shirt and red basketball shorts and had a white bandanna-type cloth on his head.

Man seriously burned in fire

A man suffered burns over most of his body in a fire that destroyed a Kona home yesterday.

The fire at 73-1125 Loloa Drive was reported about 3:45 p.m. Firefighters arrived about four minutes later and found the single-story home engulfed in flames. A 36-year-old man was found with serious burns. He was taken to Kona Community Hospital.

Officials said the fire likely was caused by spilled gasoline on the garage floor that was ignited by an unknown source.



Iwilei fire hits three stores

A fire early yesterday morning damaged three stores in the 500 block of Alakawa Street in Iwilei.

The fire, which was reported about 4:10 a.m., was put out quickly but not before damaging a paint, silver recovery and sheet metal shop. There were no injuries.



Kapolei woman in forgery case

A 21-year-old Kapolei woman was arrested about 4:10 p.m. Tuesday after she allegedly tried to cash a forged check at a check-cashing business on Wilikina Drive across from the McComb Gate at Schofield Barracks.

A store worker became suspicious when the woman tried to cash a $1,000 check drawn on the account of a Honolulu woman and called police. The account owner told police she had not issued the check to the woman.
