S&P Revises Hawai'i outlook to positive

Standard & Poor's Ratings Services revised its outlook to positive and affirmed the AA- rating on Hawai'i's $4.1 billion outstanding general obligation debt. "The outlook revision reflects the improved economic conditions" in the state, S&P said.

"Hawaii's financial position, buoyed by a robust economic expansion, is approaching the very strong levels achieved in the late 1990s. Importantly, the state is building its reserve levels and restoring a financial cushion deemed appropriate for the state's economic basek," the rating agency said.
