We're jammin'

KCCN-FM 100 and Bud Light team up once again to present a Hawaiian-style bash. The 10th annual Jammin' Hawaiians concert boasts a lineup of local faves including Fiji, Keahiwai, B.E.T., Koa'uka, Inoa'ole, Zach Kekona, Kalaeloa, 3 Scoops of Aloha and Epic Sessions. The first 1,000 lawn tickets are $10 each. Backrests are allowed but chairs are not.

That blaze of glory

In a scorcher of a championship event, the 13th annual World Fireknife Competition has kicked off. More than 40 contestants started things off with the preliminaries yesterday at the Polynesian Cultural Center. Temperatures continue to rise tonight with the Junior World Fireknife Competition and adult semi-finals at the center's Hale Aloha. The finals of the fireknife championship take place during the intermissions of the "Horizons" night show in the center's Pacific Theater on Saturday.

Iggy Jang fiddlin' around

The Honolulu Symphony's Halekulani MasterWorks season continues with "Iggy Jang Plays Khachaturian." Violinist and concertmaster Jang performs the lively Concerto for Violin and Orchestra by Armenian composer Aram Khachaturian, in a program that also includes works by John Adams and Tchaikovsky. Alasdair Neale guest-conducts.

Lang on the ax

Guitar slinger Jonny Lang is wrapping up his four-island tour that was part of the Hawaiian Islands Rhythm and Blues Mele. The 24-year-old blues/rock musician jams with a new band that includes drums/percussion, bass, electric violin, mandolin and piano. Lang himself performs on electric, slide and acoustic guitar. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and Slim Mango opens.

Filipino flavor

The colors of Filipino culture sparkle during the 13th annual Filipino Fiesta and Parade. Presented by the Filipino Community Center, the all-day celebration starts off with an hour-long parade at 9 a.m., with floats and ethnic costumes starting from Fort DeRussy, traveling down Kalakaua Avenue and ending in Kapi'olani Park. The festivities continue with a party in the park at 10 a.m. with vendors and merchants offering Filipino treats, products, and arts and crafts in the Regional Village. A health fair also takes place. Cultural performances take to the bandstand stage throughout the day with entertainment from Hawai'i, the Mainland and the Philippines.

Midnite magic

Honolulu turns into the land of the Midnite songs for one night with the roots-reggae band from St. Croix. Midnite's profound lyrics and raw musical style make for an energetic show of modern roots beats. Local reggae acts Humble Soul with THC also get in on the vibe, with Pacific Sounds Outernational warming up the masses. Doors open at 9 p.m.

Feeling bluesy?

Hawai'i Public Radio presents the second installment of its Blues Stage series with James Ronstadt and the Dynamic Shuffle Kings as the featured band. The first part of the night will be a live recording of the group for a future broadcast in June on KIPO 89.3. After a short intermission, the band returns for a jam session with friends.

Pineapple party

Explore the sweet world of pineapples during the 2nd annual Wahiawa Pineapple Festival. This year's celebration honors the "country" community and its succulent fruit, with pineapple-themed dishes from Roy's restaurant, 3660 on the Rise and Alan Wong. Learn more about the history of the pineapple in Hawai'i with narrated trolley tours of Wahiawa and history displays. There will be keiki games and activities, old plantation games, bouncers, a reunion area for pineapple field and cannery workers, arts and crafts booths, food and keiki IDs. The Hawaii International Jazz Festival All-Stars provide entertainment.
