Defending champ Punahou advances

Natale Rigg scored three goals as defending champion Punahou defeated Hawai'i Prep, 11-1, yesterday at the HHSAA/Local Motion Girls State Water Polo Championship at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex.

Punahou is the Interscholastic League of Honolulu champion and Hawai'i Prep is from the Big Island Interscholastic Federation.

In other first-round matches: Mika Bailey scored four goals and Gina Ahue added three as Kahuku beat O'ahu Interscholastic Association rival Kalani, 11-4.

Brandy Clark and Marissa Young scored four goals apiece as Roosevelt (OIA) routed Maui Interscholastic League champion Baldwin, 15-4.

Jennifer Salzman scored six goals to lead BIIF champion Hilo past Kapolei (OIA), 16-5.

Consolation matches start today at 3:15 p.m. and semifinals at 5:45 p.m.
