State bond ratings upgraded

The state received favorable news on its general obligation bond credit rating yesterday.ÊMoody's Investor Service upgraded its general obligation bond rating for the state from Aa3 to Aa2 while Standard and Poor's improved its rating outlook for the state from "Stable" to "Positive."ÊIn the credit review process, Moody's and Standard and Poor's cited Hawai'i's robust economy, revenue growth and continued strong management of finances as factors in their analyses.

"The improving credit conditions and higher bond ratings will enhance the state's ability to obtain the lowest financing cost in its upcoming general obligation bond sale scheduled for later this month," Gov. Linda Lingle said in a written statement.



Airline to restart Hawai'i flights

EVA Air will resume service to Hawai'i with flights between Taipei and Honolulu three times a week beginning June 25.

The Taiwan-based airline has expanded its fleet and will use a new Airbus A330-200 for its Honolulu flights. EVA launched Hawai'i flights in 1994 but suspended its Hono-lulu route in September 2000 because of heavier demands in other markets.

ML&P director steps down

Maui Land & Pineapple Co. said yesterday that Richard H. Cameron has tendered his resignation as a director of ML&P, effective immediately, citing personal and family reasons. Cameron has been a director of ML&P since 1984.

"Richard has been instrumental in moving ML&P forward over the last year and a half," said David Cole, the company's chief executive. "His practical business outlook and his knowledge and background of this company and the Maui community will be very much missed."



Meetings to look at local goods

The Department of Agriculture will hold public hearings next week on a new marketing program designed to increase interest in high-quality, locally produced food products. The effort to create a Hawai'i seal of quality for fresh and processed goods was initiated by the Legislature in 2002.

Hearings are scheduled for:

• Monday — 9 a.m. at the Department of Agriculture, 635 Mua St., Kahului, Maui; 1 p.m. at the Hale Waiolama Building at the Department of Agriculture, 1428 S. King St., Honolulu.

• Tuesday — 9 a.m., Department of Agriculture, 4398A Pua Loke St., Lihue, Kaua'i; 10 a.m., University of Hawai'i extension office, 79-7381 Mamalahoa highway, Kealakekua, Hawai'i.

• Wednesday — 10 a.m., Department of Agriculture, Conference Rooms B and C, 75 Aupuni St., Hilo, Hawai'i.
