Jasmine Trias has signed up to shoot her first movie this summer, and she's hoping to share the screen with high-profile company: Hilary and Haylie Duff.

Trias, Hawai'i's "American Idol" finalist from last season, expects to play a singer and drummer in the film entitled "All Girl Band." She also hopes to play original music by the Academy Award-winning Sherman Brothers (Richard and Robert), whose soundtracks include "Mary Poppins," "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang," "The Jungle Book" and "The Parent Trap."

The brothers won their Oscars in 1964 for "Mary Poppins" (Best Original Score) and "Chim-Chim Cher-ee" (Best Song).

Jeff Sherman, writer of the "Boy Meets World" TV sitcom, wrote the screenplay and is producer of the independent film, which is being shopped to major studios for distribution. He is Robert Sherman's son.

Trias said she's eager to make the move into films.

"I've actually tried drumming a couple of times. But I'll have to take a few more lessons," she said. "For me, it's a pretty ambitious (project). I'll probably need some acting lessons."

Trias' record label, the Los Angeles-based ClockWork Entertainment, and its CEO Debbie Hammond were go-betweens in setting up the movie project. Hammond said acting coach Matt Jackson, an in-demand mentor for young talent in Disney movies and productions, has agreed to work with Trias.

Sherman was in Los Angeles when Trias was recording her album there. "Jeff invited her to be in his movie, on the spot," Hammond said.

According to Hammond, Haylie Duff sent an e-mail calling the "All Girl Band" screenplay "really cool," but the Duffs have not committed to join the movie's cast.

The Duff sisters were also sent a preview sampling of music from Trias' new CD, "and they loved it," Hammond said. The young performers have not met.

ClockWork releases Trias' debut album, "Jasmine Trias," on July 12.

Trias, 18, is a Maryknoll High School graduate. She finished third on "American Idol" last year, behind Diana DeGarmo and Fantasia Barrino. She has a promotional disc out now, distributed by Pizza Hut and Taco Bell, but her ballad, "Flying Home," has not generated much radio airplay.

Her new CD introduces an edgier, rhythm and blues-based sound.

Besides the ClockWork album, Trias will record a CD for the Philippines, Hammond said. The disc will be released by Universal Music. Plans call for the CD to include 10 of the 13 American tunes Trias has recorded and four done in the Philippines, where she is considered a star.

Trias said she will appear on "American Idol" during airings of the contest's season finale May 24 and 25, "to promote my new album."

She also appears today on the Michael W. Perry and Larry Price breakfast show, broadcast from the John Dominis restaurant.
