No. 1 BYUH women upset in D-II tennis

The top-ranked Brigham Young-Hawai'i women's tennis team lost to Armstrong Atlantic State (Ga.), 5-3, yesterday in the NCAA Division II final, snapping the Seasiders' streak of three consecutive national titles and 130 dual match winning streak.
The second-ranked Pirates went 3-2 in singles and 2-1 in doubles at Altamonte Springs, Fla.
The Seasiders' Jing Jing Liu beat Luisa Cowper, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 1 singles, and Adrienn Hegedus beat Dziyana Nazaruk, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 2 singles.
Liu and Hegedus are ranked Nos. 1 and 2 in the country, respectively.
Armstrong Atlantic State won at No. 3, No. 4 and No. 6 singles. The No. 5 singles match was abandoned after Armstrong Atlantic State clinched the title.
Liu and Hegedus beat Cowper and Laura Peaty, 8-5, at No. 1 doubles, but the Pirates won at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles.
Since joining Division II for the 1998-99 season, BYUH has won six national titles and finished runner-up twice.
The Seasiders finished this season with a 29-1 record and have gone 233-2 in dual matches since the 1998-99 season.
