Early morning stabbing leaves two dead

Two men are dead and two other people were hospitalized following a brawl early this morning at the Ala Wai Boat Harbor in Waikiki.

Police believe that as many as nine people may have been involved in the incident, which began 2:10 a.m. in the boat harbor parking area and spread to at least two other areas, including a helicopter landing pad behind the Ilikai Hotel.

Police said a 50-year-old man died of stab wounds received in the melee. A second man, who is suspected of the fatal stabbing, was pulled from harbor waters and died at Straub Clinic & Hospital, apparently from drowning.

A second man who was stabbed during the fight was reported to be in critical condition at Straub while a woman was reported in serious condition there with stab wounds to her chest and arms.

Police arrested one suspect, who remained in custody this morning at the cellblock at the main police station on Beretania Street, and were looking for several others.

Initial indications were that the incident may have been triggered by dispute over parking spaces at the harbor, police said.
