Business briefs: Lowe's Iwilei store to open in 2008

Lowe's said today that its planned hardware store in Iwilei is expected to open in the second quarter of 2008.Lowe's Companies Inc., the nation's second-largest home improvement retailer, said the 117,000-square-foot Pacific Street store will create as many as 175 new jobs.
The store, the third in Hawaii for the North Carolina-based retailer, will be located in close proximity to two other hardware stores in the area, Home Depot and City Mill.
Hawai'i gets 'B' for family financial security
Hawai'i was rated a "B" for overall financial security of its families, according to a study by the Corporation for Enterprise Development or CFED, a nonprofit economic research firm in Washington, D.C. Among the categories, the state got "Cs" for finances, business development and homeownership. It received an "A" in health care and "B" in education. As for net worth, Hawai'i came in 9th highest nationwide and it was 4th lowest in bankruptcies filed. But the state also garnered a "substandard" rating in state policies that would help residents build assets.
