ISLAND LIFE SHORTS
A snack for grads, dads

Advertiser Staff

An edible novelty lei — well, actually, a bag of snacks attached to a lanyard — comes with a declaration, "I-so happy for you." It's aimed at graduates, but could be worn by a beloved dad for Father's Day, a birthday celebrant, a retiree or others.

It's the latest fun thing, which features iso peanut and mochi ball snacks, one of a growing list of "lei-nyards" created by the folks at Wabi-Sabi, a gift shop in Kaimuki (at 1223 Koko Head Ave., 734-3693).

The "I-so happy" item is $8.50. Earlier munchable lei have included fortune cookies and preserved seeds — as well as a Worth Every Cent number with a bag of pennies.

BOX OFFICE

Fonda's 'Monster' takes $24M

Despite largely scathing reviews, "Monster in Law," Jane Fonda's return to movies, topped the box office with an estimated $24 million, according to Exhibitor Relations.

Will Ferrell's "Kicking & Screaming" opened in the No. 2 spot with $20.9 million. Opening wide but on fewer screens, Jet Li's "Unleashed" came in third with an estimated $10.6 million. "Kingdom of Heaven" ($9.6 million) and "Crash" ($7.2 million) round out the Top Five.

This week, the summer movie season kicks off with the premiere of George Lucas' "Star Wars: Episode III — Revenge of the Sith" on Thursday.

FINAL WORD

"I personally don't believe in love at first sight. I definitely believe in a lot of chemistry and lust at first sight. Maybe I'm just getting too old, but I think it's something that takes work."

Amanda Peet | on AP Radio. Peet co-stars with Ashton Kutcher in "A Lot Like Love."
