TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE:
It's a dental I.D. for children. Find out how this tool can help police if your child is missing. It's tonight's special report, "Toothprints," with Stephanie Lum. Of Note:
"Britney and Kevin: Chaotic" debut, 5 p.m., UPN. Can you really make a reality show out of home movies? Yes, but only if you're pop tart Britney Spears and her husband, Kevin Federline. "American Idol," 7 p.m., Fox. Now things get really serious. The final three singers, Vonzell Solomon, Bo Bice and Carrie Underwood perform. On Wednesday, we'll learn which two collide in the finals. "Gilmore Girls," 7 p.m., WB. On its good weeks this is as quick and clever as anything on TV. Here's one of its best, overflowing with great dialogue. Rory is supposed to be in Yale, not in jail. She's taken a joy ride on a stolen yacht. Tonight's season-ending cliffhanger offers two surprises. "My Wife & Kids," 7 p.m., ABC. Launching an evening of extra-long season finales, this episode has Michael hesitant about his wife's suggestion that he get a vasectomy. "The George Lopez Show," 7:40 p.m., ABC. Quarterbacks Donovan McNabb and Daunte Culpepper show up, with Jason trying to get a football scholarship. "House," 8 p.m., Fox. This brilliant show has been hinting that Dr. House's morose nature isn't just caused by his physical problems he also lost the great love of his life. Now we meet her, played by Sela Ward. She returns to ask House to help her husband. "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," 8 and 9 p.m., NBC. Both episodes focus on Oscar-winner Marlee Matlin. The first begins with a presumed rape victim found in a hotel. In the second, Matlin is needed to track down people selling body parts. "The Shield," 7 p.m., FX; repeating at 8 p.m. Shane, the troubled cop, must tell his former colleagues about his shaky dealings.
"Academy of Country Music Awards," 7 p.m., CBS. Country music's top people converge in Las Vegas. Gretchen Wilson is up for both best newcomer and best female vocalist. Her "Redneck Woman" is up for single of the year. Her pals Big & Rich are also in the newcomer category, along with two Joshes (Turner and Gracin) and a Julie (Roberts). The others for best single: Lee Ann Womack's "I May Hate Myself in the Morning"; Rascal Flatts' "Bless the Broken Road"; Keith Urban's "Days Go By"; Tim McGraw's "Live Like You Were Dying"; and the Brad Paisley/Alison Krauss duet "Whiskey Lullaby." The entertainer of the year category has McGraw and Urban facing Toby Keith, Brooks & Dunn and newlywed Kenny Chesney.
