UH pays most of bill from stadium

Advertiser Staff

Aloha Stadium said it has received a check for $214,000 from the University of Hawai'i-Manoa, nearly settling the Warriors' $270,000 outstanding charges at the facility for the 2004 football season.

"We're happy to get the check," said Patrick Leonard, stadium spokesman. "We're ready to move on." He said UH had pledged to pay the remainder by the end of the month.

UH had been billed $879,179. Of that, $554,114 was for expenses (cleanup, security, electricity, ushers etc.) and the remainder for rent.

Last month the Aloha Stadium Authority began a process that could provide an amendment to its rules allowing it to reduce or eliminate the rent. Currently, UH is charged 7.5 percent of gross ticket revenues or a minimum of $10,000 per game.
