Kaua'i leads after first round

Cory French shot a 2-over-par 74 yesterday to share the individual lead and help the defending champion Kaua'i Red Raiders take a three-stroke advantage at the HHSAA/David S. Ishii Foundation Boys Golf State Championships.

The final round will be played today at the 6,730-yard Wailea Emerald Course on Maui starting at 7 a.m.

French, the Kaua'i Interscholastic Federation champion, is tied with Iolani's Shunsuke Aonuma and Kamehameha-O'ahu's Thomas Kua. Defending champion Kurt Nino of Damien is in a three-way tie for seventh after opening with a 76.

Punahou is second at 313, followed by King Kekaulike (315) and Mililani (320).
