Football clinic features several NCAA coaches

A football clinic, featuring several NCAA Division I coaches, and a combine for Hawai'i high school athletes will be held this weekend.
The clinic will be held at the Outrigger Reef Hotel on Friday from 4 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. with the combine the next day at Saint Louis School.
The clinic, presented by Pacific Islands Athletic Alliance, is for high school and youth level coaches and features coaches from Hawai'i, Cal, Nebraska, San Diego State, Tennessee and Washington.
Among the UH coaches will be Rich Miano, Ron Lee, Dan Morrison and Mel deLaura.
Other coaches, mostly assistants, include Ken Delgado (Cal), Bill Bush (Nebraska), Frank Solich (Ohio), Ed White (San Diego State), Steve Caldwell (Tennessee), Chris Tormey (Washington) and Keith Uperesa (Nevada-Las Vegas).
Coaches will give specific instruction for their positions on drills, techniques and skills specific to high school coaching.
Cost is $40 in advance $35 for staffs registering four or more coaches at the same time or $45 at the door. Space is available for 200 coaches, with about 60 spots still available.
On Saturday, more than 120 Hawai'i football players from the class of 2007 will participate in a combine.
More than 25 college coaches are expected to attend.
Combine directors are Darnell Arceneaux, former Saint Louis School and Utah quarterback, and Eddie Klaneski, a former UH receiver.

Slater has perfect day
Florida's Kelly Slater surfed a perfect final heat to win the prestigious Billabong Pro Tahiti men's surfing contest.
The final day of the weeklong contest was completed yesterday in 6- to 8-foot waves at Teahupoo, Tahiti.
Slater received two perfect 10s for his two best barrel rides in the final. He defeated Florida's Damien Hobgood in the final, 20.0-17.5, to win the $30,000 first prize.
Fred Patacchia Jr. of O'ahu's North Shore tied for fifth and was the top Hawai'i finisher. He received $8,000.
Three-time world champion Andy Irons of Kaua'i was eliminated in the fourth round. Fellow Hawai'i surfers Kalani Robb and Bruce Irons also were eliminated in the fourth round.
