Quakes' Ching injured

Kamehameha graduate Brian Ching, who leads the San Jose Earthquakes in scoring, will miss four to six weeks of the Major League Soccer season after straining a hamstring late in the first half of last Saturday's 0-0 tie with Dallas.

Ching, 26, has four goals and two assists and was recently named the Maggiano's Player of the Month for April. He also has started all seven games this season for San Jose. In his Quakes career, Ching has played 47 games, scoring 22 goals and notching eight assists.



CLINICS

Speeding to an end

The final spring sessions of the Hawai'i Speed and Quickness Clinic are scheduled for this weekend at the University of Hawai'i athletic complex.

For a $10 fee per session, each participant receives a Jamba Juice coupon and instruction in plyometrics, running technique and vertical-jump training.

The head instructor is Rich Miano, a UH and Kaiser High graduate who played 11 years in the NFL and is a member of the UH football coaching staff.

There are sessions from 8:30-10 a.m. for ages 7-12 and 10:30 a.m.-noon for ages 13 and older.
