BUSINESS BRIEFS
Honolulu 4th-most expensive place to live

Advertiser Staff

Honolulu ranked as the fourth-most expensive place to live during the first quarter, according to the ACCRA Cost of Living Index released today. The list of 305 urban areas surveyed was headed by New York, San Francisco and San Jose, Calif.

Separately, Honolulu ranked second behind San Francisco as the most expensive place to buy Lipitor, which is a prescription drug used to lower cholesterol. Juneau, Alaska ranked third.

ACCRA, a nonprofit economic development research center, bases its index on the cost of consumer goods, excluding taxes and nonconsumer expenditures.

Record 170 employers to recruit at job fair next week

The WorkForce job fair set for Tuesday at the Neal Blaisdell Center has drawn its largest employer turnout ever, with 170 local businesses, Mainland organizations, military recruiters and government agencies accepting job applications.

With the state boasting the nation's lowest unemployment rate at 2.8 percent, Hawai'i employers are struggling to find qualified candidates to fill their many openings.

General admission to the job fair is $2, while students with valid school identification will be admitted for $1. Job seekers are advised to dress appropriately and bring multiple copies of their resume. For more information, call 536-7222, or visit www.successhi.com.
