Comedy showcase Make Me Laugh 5 heads for the west side again for more chuckles and giggles. Local favorite Andy Bumatai, left, headlines, and he will be joined by Kento, Brian Min and Mo Dixon. Jeff Kino hosts. Tickets are $20 advance and $25 at the door.

Dive into summer at the Summer Sun Splash music festival and block party. Ten varieties of music can be heard on five entertainment stages with artists such as Chaka Demus and Pliers, Tanya Stephens, O-Maya, DJ Malik and DJ Joey Mazzola jumping into the mix. Tickets are $15 advance, $20 at the door.

CLUBS: May 29

Memorial Day weekend just got a bit hotter with the arrival of Mix Master Mike, DJ for the Beastie Boys. Starting out as a member of DJ collective Invisibl Skratch Piklz, this master of the turntables proved to be a DMC World Champion. Local DJs KSM and XL jump on deck, spinning hip-hop, rock, '80s and house. Tickets are $20, for 18 and older.

And here's to Mrs. Robinson and the rest of the players in Manoa Valley Theatre's Hawai'i premiere of the dramedy "The Graduate." The stage adaptation of this popular novel and classic film follows recent college graduate Benjamin Braddock on a sexual odyssey with his girlfriend and her mom. Justin Brossier is Benjamin and Patrice Scott plays Mrs. Robinson. Betty Burdick directs. Tickets are $25 general, with a $5 discount for seniors and military. Those 25 and younger enter for $15.

AWARDS: June 3

The Hawai'i Academy of Recording Arts honors local recording artists with the Hawai'i version of the Grammys, the 2005 Na Hoku Hanohano Awards. This year's nominees include Eddie Kamae and the Sons of Hawai'i, Owana Salazar, Na Palapalai, The Brothers Cazimero and Raiatea Helm. Individual tickets are $95, or $85 for HARA members by May 10. Individual premium tickets are $200, or $175 members by May 10.

FESTIVAL: June 4-5

The 13th annual Pow Wow prepares to get under way with Native American dancing, drumming, singing, arts, crafts and food. Hosted by the Intertribal Council of Hawaii, the event serves as a gathering place for Native Americans from Hawai'i, the Mainland and Canada to celebrate modern and traditional culture. Admission is free.

The Hawaiian Music Hall of Fame is celebrating its 10th anniversary with a star-studded bash, "Na 'Ilina." The concert features a plethora of local performers, including Harry Soria, Nina Keali'iwahamana, Mahi and Gaye Beamer, Kahauanu Lake Singers and Emma Veary. The pre-show starts at 7 p.m. with Pa'ahana. A post-show follows with an opportunity to meet the artists, plus music by Paul Martinez and Na Hokupa. Tickets: $20-$25.

Melodious sounds of harmony take center stage during The Makaha Sons' (left to right, John Koko, Jerome Koko and Louis Kaukahi) annual bash, Take a Walk in the Country 3. They say everybody loves the guy, so come check out the hype for yourself during a live comedy show starring Ray Romano (far right) and Phil Rosenthal. Comic-actor "Everybody Loves Raymond" Romano and series creator/producer Rosenthal team up for a laugh-a-thon that gives fans a peek into the creative minds that turned everyday life dealings into an Emmy Award-winning sitcom. Let those friendly neighbors of Sesame Street sweep those clouds away for a rainbow of fun at "Elmo's Coloring Book." Elmo, Zoe, Oscar, Big Bird and the rest of the gang come and play during a vibrantly energetic Sesame Street Live show exploring the world of colors. Tickets are $11 and $15, with some $19 premium seats available. On opening night, all seats are $11.

Enjoy the balmy weather of summer as the Bishop Museum launches its 2005 Moonlight Mele on the Lawn concert series. The three-concert series kicks off with Na Hoku Hanohano award winners Maunalua (left to right, Bruce Spencer, Kahi Kaonohi and Bobby Moderow Jr.). Upcoming feature artists include Ho'okena with Da Braddahs and the Makaha Sons. Tickets are $15 general, $10 Bishop Museum members and Bank of Hawaii customers and employees, and $5 children 4-12.

FESTIVAL: June 18

This summer will be too hot to handle with the 5th annual Puerto Rican Cultural and Salsa Festival "Salsathon" heating things up. All ages are welcome at this family-friendly event, which includes the scorching tunes of El Conjunto Tropical, Tommy Valentine Y Sus Amigos, Son Caribe (right), Luisito Rosario and Conjunto Alegre. The day-long fiesta also includes salsa workshops, silent auction, arts and crafts and dance performances. Admission is $10 advance, $15 at the door. Military and seniors 60 and older are $5, with children 12 and younger free.

FESTIVAL: June 23-25

The 16th annual Honolulu Gay Pride celebration kicks off three days of fun with a parade, splash party, festival, concert and the 3rd annual Gay Pride Idol singing competition. The powerhouse vocals of Martha Wash, above, best known for the dance hit "It's Raining Men," takes center stage at the Pride Festival concert on June 25. Other festivities includes the Mr.-Ms.-Miss Gay Pride Contest at Fusion Waikiki, Pride Splash Party at McCoy Pavilion and the Pride Parade from Ala Moana Beach Park to Kapi'olani Park. Admission prices vary by event.

BUZZING ABOUT

Singular sensations

Hawai'i will see two productions of "A Chorus Line," the epochal 1975 Broadway backstage musical, in the months ahead. Ronald E. Bright is directing the Castle Performing Arts Center's version July 22, 23, 24, 29, 30, 31 and Aug. 5, 6 and 7, at the Bright Theatre at Castle High School, with an alumni and community cast. Encore Attractions, which staged the Michael Bennett musical with tunes by Marvin Hamlisch here in August, 1998, is remounting a non-equity company, directed by Mitzi Hamilton, for a tour that will start in El Paso, Texas, starting Oct. 10, with Honolulu (eight shows, Oct. 17 through 23) and Maui (five shows, Oct. 24-30) as stops. The venues have not been announced. (FYI, Broadway welcomes back the show in 2006.)

All that jazz

While the 12th Annual Hawaii International Jazz Festival won't start smokin' till 7 p.m. July 29 and 30 at the Hawai'i Theatre, tickets go on sale June 1 at the box office ($25, $40 & $50; $5 discounts for seniors, military and students; a two-day pass option also is available).
