Punahou repeats as state baseball champs

Jared Pate pitched a two-hitter, and Kasey Ko batted 3 for 4 including an RBI to lead Punahou to a 3-1 victory over Kailua for its second consecutive state high school baseball title tonight at Les Murakami Stadium.

Punahou finished 21-2-1. Kailua was 12-4.

Pate struck out five and walked none. He took a perfect game into the fifth until Matthew Kinoshita doubled with one out.

After scoring a run on a balk in the fourth inning, Punahou took a 2-0 lead when Ko doubled to left-center field to score Daniel Cho in the fifth.

Landon Nakata's infield single scored Reyn Kubota to give the Buffanblu a 3-0 lead in the sixth.

Kyle Fujimoto also had three hits for Punahou.
