"Our Fathers," 5 and 7:15 p.m., Showtime. Rippling with passion and pain, this is a superb movie, based on real events surrounding the sex abuse scandal in the Catholic Church. At its core is the understated emotion of ordinary guys. Growing up in the Boston area, this film says, these young men were sexually abused by priests. The abusers were quietly sent to other parishes. Decades later, the issue finally went public. When church officials stonewalled, tempers heated. After a so-so start, "Our Fathers" offers strong directing (by Dan Curtis) and brilliant performances. Ted Danson (as quick-talking lawyer Mitchell Garabedian) and Brian Dennehy (as crusading Father Dominic Spagnolia) are superb, as expected. Both were in another masterful Showtime film, "Thanks of a Grateful Nation." The real power, however, comes from the blue-collar guys, played by Daniel Baldwin, Chris Bauer, Aidan Devine and more.

Of Note

"Born on the Fourth of July" (1989), 7 p.m., Pax TV. Ron Kovic went to Vietnam as an enthusiastic patriot and came home paralyzed from the waist down. There were more hurdles and triumphs ahead. It's a tough story, but Tom Cruise throws himself into it with a fierce, Oscar-worthy performance. Except for the excessive length, the film is beautifully directed by Oliver Stone.

"Crossing Jordan," 7 p.m., NBC. The killer dubbed Leviathan has resurfaced in this rerun. Woody has a suspect (played by Reed Diamond of "Homicide"), but can't pin it on him. Then Nigel finds a pattern and there's a rush to stop the next murder.

"Lost: The Journey," 7 p.m., ABC. With the season finale coming Wednesday here's a rerun of the highlight special, dealing with key characters.

"Without a Trace," 7 p.m., CBS. As an execution nears, the prisoner's dad is missing in this rerun.

"Desperate Housewives," 8 p.m., ABC. On the eve of the "Desperate Housewives" season finale, here are the two most recent episodes. They center on Gabrielle' pregnancy, Bree's creepy new friend and Lynette's jealousy.

"Saturday Night Live," 10:30 p.m., NBC. Lindsay Lohan hosts the season finale — "SNL's" 30th. Coldplay is the musical guest.
