University of Hawai'i Manoa Chancellor Peter Englert briefed UH regents on former UH President Evan Dobelle's research at the latest board meeting this week, and regents have indicated they are satisfied with the monitoring plan Englert put in place, according to UH spokeswoman Carolyn Tanaka.

"Chancellor Englert has given the board a status report on the former president's research work," said board chairwoman Patricia Lee through Tanaka, the university's associate vice president for external affairs. "He also presented to the board a plan for monitoring the work and the board is comfortable with that plan."

Under terms of Dobelle's mediated separation agreement from UH last summer, he has a two-year research contract with compensation of $125,000 annually.

In other action during the monthly regents' meeting Thursday and yesterday:

• The board established a policy regarding UH employees who work for the Legislature during session, saying they must either resign or take leave without pay.

• Interim UH President David McClain expects to make a recommendation to regents in June regarding whether the new John A. Burns School of Medicine in Kaka'ako should be spun off as a separate campus, falling under the UH system for administration, or continue as part of the Manoa campus.
