Key House Votes
1. Homeland security
The House voted 424-4 Wednesday to authorize the Homeland Security Department to spend $34.1 billion in fiscal 2006. The bill would scale back the government's color-coded alert system for terror threats.

The House voted 329-89 Thursday to approve a $26.2 billion spending bill covering the Interior Department and Environmental Protection Agency as well as money for the arts.

1. Highway spending
The Senate voted 89-11 Tuesday for a bill that would provide $295 billion to states for highway and transit projects through the end of the decade. That amount is $11 billion more than the House approved, and the White House has threatened to veto the bill.

The Senate could vote on whether to change Senate rules to bar judicial filibusters. The House is expected to take up a bill to increase embryonic stem cell research as well as a defense bill and spending bills to finance energy and water projects, military construction projects and veterans programs.
