Hawaiian Air April earnings fall

Hawaiian Airlines said its operating profit and net income fell in April from a year earlier because of higher fuel costs.

The airline said today that its net income for last month was $414,000, down from April 2004's $2.4 million.

The company said it generated an operating profit of $1.7 million on revenue of $63.8 million in April 2005, compared to an operating profit of $7.1 million on revenues of $63.4 million in the previous April.

Hawaiian said its fuel cost rose to nearly $15 million in April from $10.3 million in the year-earlier month.



Waikiki ranks as 29th top Memorial Day weekend vacation

Waikiki ranked 29th out of the 50 most popular destinations for Memorial Day weekend vacations booked on Internet travel service Priceline.com.

The Las Vegas strip topped the third annual survey, based on more than 30,000 hotel room booking requests by priceline.com customers for the long weekend.

The Wailea Marriott Resort will have a new Mandara Spa facility in December, replacing the smaller spa currently operated by Mandara.

The new spa is part of Wailea Marriott's multi-million dollar renovation this year. Mandara reached a 15-year agreement with Marriott and has agreed to pay $750,000 towards the building of the spa, said Steiner Leisure Ltd., which licenses the Mandara brand name.
