MOANALUA LITTER: The Wai Momi Outdoor Circle will hold a one-hour litter pickup session along Moanalua Road, 9-10 a.m. Thursday. Call 488-0268.

HAKEAKALA HELPERS: Spend the Memorial Day weekend, May 28-30, helping the Friends of Haleakala National Park remove non-native plants and perform light maintenance at Kapalaoa Cabin in Haleakala Crater, with time for hiking and relaxing in the wilderness area. A separate project will be June 4-5 at the park's Kipahulu District, where volunteers are needed for greenhouse maintenance, trail brushing, shelter repairs and removal of non-native species. Participants may stay at the campground or in the volunteer cabin. For reservations and information, call Farley Jacob at (808) 248-7660.

WINDWARD WORKDAY: The Great Kapa'a Valley & Kawai Nui Marsh Community Stewardship Workday will be 7:30 a.m.-noon May 30. Volunteers ages 11 and up are needed to pick up litter on the quarry road, clear the marsh view plane, plant native plants, and drive trucks to pick up bagged trash. Wear close-toed shoes with gripping soles, long-sleeved shirts, insect repellent, sunscreen, and a hat; breakfast, lunch, water and snacks provided, along with gloves and trash bags. Advance registration required; call 223-5535 or e-mail info@waa-hawaii.org by Wednesday for middle and high school classes, by Thursday for college, church, community, business groups, or by Friday for individuals.

MARSH RESTORATION: The Hawai'i Nature Center is cleaning up and restoring the wetland habitat in Pearl Harbor. Volunteers are needed to pull pickleweed 8:30-11:30 a.m. June 4. Bring work gloves, water, hat, sunscreen, towel and change of clothes; covered footwear and long pants required. To sign up, contact Pauline Kawamata at 955-0100, ext. 18.

PROTECT NATIVE PLANTS: Volunteer are sought to build trails, control invasive plants and do plantings June 4 at the Pahole Natural Area Reserve during this Sierra Club service trip; call Reece Olayvar, 456-3049.

KANE'OHE WETLAND PROJECT: Volunteers are needed June 11 to help the Sierra Club clear a wetland of mangrove to create habitat for endangered water birds at Marine Corps Base Hawai'i. Because the base is a secured military facility, volunteers must provide name and Social Security number in advance and bring a signed waiver. Call Annette Kaohelauli'i at 235-5431.

CELL-PHONE RECYCLING: The Turn Old Into Gold program donates cash to Special Olympics in Hawai'i for each cellular phone turned in at The Honolulu Advertiser information counter on Kapi'olani Boulevard, First Hawaiian Bank, Sprint, TCA Wireless or Tech Zone.
