Advertiser Staff

A 24-year-old man was arrested last night after a Punchbowl resident returned home about 10:50 p.m. and found an intruder in his home who had stacked a number of items in the living room.

The 33-year-old homeowner told police several rooms in the house in the 600 block of Magellan Avenue had been searched, including a bedroom where his wife and 5-year-old son were sleeping.

Police said the burglar attacked the homeowner, who fought with the man and held him until officers arrived.

The suspect was arrested on suspicion of first-degree burglary, third-degree assault and first-degree trespassing.

Police nab car thief

A 28-year-old Nanakuli man was arrested early this morning after police found him in the east-bound lanes of the H-1 Freeway near the Kunia off-ramp sitting behind the wheel of a "bait car."

Members of the Police Department's auto theft detail worked with Wai'anae Coast patrol officers in deciding to place the car in an area prone to car thefts.

The man found in the car this morning was arrested on suspicion of car theft, criminal contempt of court, possession of dangerous drugs and drug paraphernalia.

Crash leads to stolen property

A bicyclist who collided with a car about noon yesterday on Maunalani Circle in Kaimuki is suspected of breaking into a car just moments earlier, police said.

While police were at the scene investigating a collision between a bicycle rider and a car, a man in a pickup truck drove up and told the officers that a bag seen lying beneath the bicycle belonged to him and had been stolen from his truck which had been parked just up the street.

Police then went to the Queen's Medical Center , where the bicyclist was taken after the crash, and reported finding other property on him that belonged to the truck owner.

The bicyclist, who was not seriously injured, was arrested at the hospital on suspicion of unlawful entry into a motor vehicle and an outstanding traffic warrant.
