Brush fires being contained
Advertiser Staff
Honolulu firefighters are battling two brushfires inWest O'ahu this afternoon.
The brushfire that scorched more than 3,000 acres at
the back of Nanakuli Valley last week flared anew
this afternoon on an inacessible ridgeline.
One HFD unit was on the scene to monitor the blaze
while Air One pilots dropped water on the advancing fire.
Honolulu Fire Capt. Emmit Kane said the fire flared up
but was under control as of 4:45 p.m.
A second fire, requiring the attention of four HFD
companies, started about 4 p.m. in the Kapolei area.
By 4: 45 p.m. smoke from that fire could be seen from
downtown, but it did not immediately threaten homes or buildings and was being brought under control.
