ISLAND LIFE SHORTS
How to raise a military family

Advertiser Staff

Raising a family is hard enough. Try raising one in the military.

That's the focus of columnist Jacey Eckhart's new book, "The Homefront Club: The Hardheaded Women's Guide to Raising a Military Family" (Naval Institute Press, $19.95).

And Eckhart should know. For 17 years, she and her Navy husband have raised three children, moved 13 times and survived five deployments. Managing military life isn't a secret only some women know, she argues, but a set of skills to be acquired. She has written more than 400 columns for the Virginian-Pilot in Norfolk, Va., that encourage, empower and entertain military families everywhere.
