Service for stabbing victim
Advertiser Staff
A memorial service has been scheduled for this weekend for an O'ahu man who was fatally stabbed May 16 in a parking lot that adjoins the state's Ala Wai small boat harbor in Waikiki.
A "celebration of life" will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot on the makai diamondhead side of the boat harbor for Kirk Hodges.
A scattering of ashes will follow the memorial service. Organizers said those planning to attend should dress casually and bring flower lei.
Friends said Hodges, 50, was stabbed after he intervened in a rapidly escalating confrontation between some harbor area regulars and about 10 young men who arrived at the parking lot a little after 2 a.m. May 16.
Frederick Flores, 18, who police suspect stabbed Hodges and two other people, drowned after diving into harbor waters while fleeing from the scene of the stabbing.
The two others who were stabbed during the incident, a man and a woman, are recovering from their wounds.
Police arrested two of Flores' brothers and a juvenile boy as suspects in the case, but released all of them without charges after they were questioned.
Police said last week that it is possible that no one else will be charged in connection with the stabbing.
