Honma to lead Iolani harriers

Advertiser Staff

Karl Honma has been named girls cross country coach for Iolani School, which has won four of the past eight state championships and the past four Interscholastic League of Honolulu titles.

Honma, a history and psychology teacher at Iolani, recently was inducted into the Big Island Sports Hall of Fame for his accomplishments as a runner for Honoka'a and the University of Hawai'i at Hilo.

He also was a longtime cross country coach for Hawai'i Prep, where his boys teams won 13 consecutive Big Island Interscholastic Federation championships and four consecutive HHSAA titles from 1992-95.

Honma replaces Greg Char, who had been the Raiders' head coach since 1991 and has moved on to Campbell.
