ISLAND LIFE SHORTS
Let's swarm against termites

Advertiser Staff

Their winged invasion of Diana Krall's recent Waikiki Shell concert was thwarted by a sudden downpour.

But termites — as Honolulu Symphony Pops conductor and pre-Krall bug swatter Matt Catingub might tell you — always come back for the attack. Reason enough to catch University of Hawai'i-Manoa termite master Julian Yates III's talk tonight at Windward Community College. Everything you've always wanted to know about the termite but were afraid to ask will be discussed, including how to kill the lil' light-bulb lovers. From 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in Hale Akoakoa, Room 105. Free.

Footwork fancy and free marks National Tap Day

Knew a man, Bojangles, and he tapped like no one else did. So to celebrate the birthday of their late, great patron saint Bill "Bojangles" Robinson, 50 tap dancers from the Movement Center and Diamond Head Theatre will do their thing for free at Ala Moana's Center Stage from 6 tonight. The show — featuring tap babies, children and advanced students — also celebrates National Tap Day. A grand finale will feature all 50 dancers on stage simultaneously. Bring a snack and at least some sense of rhythm.

Final word

"At first it was kind of hard to watch it, because it seems like it was just yesterday. It's kind of odd not to see myself with it."
