AWARDS: June 3

The Hawai'i Academy of Recording Arts honors local recording artists with the Hawai'i version of the Grammys, the 2005 Na Hoku Hanohano Awards. This year's nominees include Eddie Kamae and the Sons of Hawai'i, Owana Salazar, Na Palapalai, The Brothers Cazimero and Raiatea Helm. Individual tickets are $95, or premium tickets are $200.

FESTIVAL: June 4-5

The 13th annual Pow Wow will feature Native American dancing, drumming, singing, arts, crafts and food. Hosted by the Intertribal Council of Hawaii, the event serves as a gathering place for Native Americans from Hawai'i, the Mainland and Canada to celebrate modern and traditional culture. Admission is free.

CONCERT: June 7

The Hawaiian Music Hall of Fame celebrates its 10th anniversary with a star-studded bash, "Na 'Ilina," featuring a plethora of local performers including Harry B. Soria Jr., Nina Keali'iwahamana, Mahi and Gaye Beamer, Kahauanu Lake Singers and Emma Veary. The pre-show starts at 7 p.m. with Pa'ahana. A post-show follows with an opportunity to meet the artists, plus music by Paul Martinez and Na Hokupa. Tickets: $20-$25.

Melodious sounds of harmony take center stage during The Makaha Sons' annual bash, "Take a Walk in the Country 3." Guests include Keali'i Reichel, Willie K, Fiji, Na Palapalai, Auntie Genoa Keawe, Ho'okena, Raiatea Helm, Na Kama, Hoku Zuttermeister, Kalaeloa, Troy Fernandez, Pili'oha and Natalie and Io Kamauu. COMEDY: June 11

They say everybody loves the guy, so come check out the hype for yourself during a live show starring Ray Romano and Phil Rosenthal. Comic-actor "Everybody Loves Raymond" Romano and series creator/producer Rosenthal team up for a laugh-a-thon that gives fans a peek into the creative minds that turned everyday life situations into an Emmy Award-winning sitcom. Tickets are $35, $45 and $55.

Turtle Bay Resort's Honu Festival '05 features the contemporary jazz sounds of Russ Freeman and the Rippingtons, left. Saxophonist Eric Marienthal joins in for some smooth grooves. Local band The Honolulu Jazz Quartet opens the night, with vocalist Ginai. This evening under the stars includes telescopes, food, wine and Keoki Beers. Doors open at 5 p.m. for the concert. Tickets are $30 general, $15 for kids 4-11.

STAGE: June 13-15

Kumu Kahua Theatre teams up with the Hawaii United Okinawa Association to present benefit performances of "Aloha Las Vegas." The theater revives its popular comedy, written by Edward Sakamoto and directed by Harry Wong III, about a local family considering a move to Hawai'i's "ninth island." The cast includes, from left, Salli Morita, Dann Seki and Janice Terukina. Admission is $16 general, $13 groups of 10 or more and $10 youths. ("Aloha" also will be performed at UH-Hilo June 17-18; and at Kumu Kahua's downtown theater June 22-26.)

Enjoy the balmy weather of summer as the Bishop Museum launches its 2005 Moonlight Mele on the Lawn concert series. The three-concert series kicks off with Na Hoku Hanohano award winners Maunalua. Upcoming feature artists include Ho'okena with Da Braddahs and the Makaha Sons. Tickets are $15 general, $10 Bishop Museum members and Bank of Hawaii customers and employees, and $5 children 4-12.

Let the friendly neighbors of Sesame Street sweep those clouds away for a rainbow of fun at "Elmo's Coloring Book." Elmo, Zoe, Oscar, Big Bird and the rest of the gang come and play during a vibrantly energetic Sesame Street Live show exploring the world of colors. Tickets are $11 and $15, with some $19 premium seats available. On opening night, all seats are $11.

FESTIVAL: June 18

This summer will be too hot to handle with the 5th annual Puerto Rican Cultural and Salsa Festival "Salsathon" heating things up. All ages are welcome at this family-friendly event, which includes the scorching tunes of El Conjunto Tropical, Tommy Valentine y Sus Amigos, Son Caribe, Luisito Rosario and Conjunto Alegre. The day-long fiesta also includes salsa workshops, silent auction, arts and crafts and dance performances. Admission is $10 advance, $15 at the door. Military and seniors 60 and older are $5, with children 12 and younger free.

CONCERT: June 26

It's an explosive night of feel-good music at the '70s Soul Jam, hosted by Jimmy "JJ Dy-No-Mite!" Walker. The sexy grooves of golden bands The Stylistics, Heatwave, The Delphonics, Peaches and Herb and The Persuaders will make you feel brand new as you shimmy your way across two dance floors. FAIR: June 24-26

The second annual Hawaii 4-H Farm Fair gets under way for an educational and entertaining experience for all. The festivities include a livestock show, auction, 4-H fashion and cooking displays, keiki games, farmer's market, bouncers, crafts, agricultural products, eating contests and entertainment. Admission is free. (This fair is separate from the State Farm Fair, which is scheduled for July 29-31 and Aug. 5-7 in Kapolei.)

FOOD FESTIVAL: June 24-26

The state's biggest foodie event is back for its 14th year of edibles, wine and entertainment on the grounds near City Hall. The Taste of Honolulu, a benefit for Easter Seals Hawai'i, features sample portions (purchased by scrip) from restaurants including Brew Moon, Ciao Mein, Marbella, Shanghai Bistro and 21 Degrees North. Admission is $3 general, free for seniors and kids under 12. Or download a form at www.taste808.com for an advance scrip sale that includes admission for two and $50 worth of scrip for $45 (mailing deadline is May 31).

BUZZING ABOUT:

Party time

The Hawaii State Theatre Council has scrapped its Po'okela Awards this year — though theater types and prospective honorees are being polled, to see what the future holds — but a celebration party is set anyway for 6 p.m. July 25 at the Ko'olau Ballroom in Windward O'ahu, to talk story, trade notes, contemplate the future theatrical seasons.

Cancellations

  • Eek-A-Mouse, the reggae mainstay, won't be performing at the Hard Rock Cafe Saturday after all.
  • Comic Doug Stanhope, scheduled for June 10-11 Honolulu shows, has canceled, citing schedule conflicts.

On the Go

Go Jimmy Go, which is on the road (from the East Coast heading to the West), will launch a new CD, "Fishbowl Eyes," on June 21. A release party is set for June 24 at the Hawaiian Hut, with Warsaw guest-performing. Check GoJimmyGo.com for updates.

"Starbucks Wildest Show in Town" begins July 6 as the Wednesday sundown series brings family entertainment in an abbreviated run at Honolulu Zoo. The coffee company has taken on sponsorship, through Aug. 10.
