Advertiser Staff
The Pearl Harbor Memorials Relay will be held on Memorial Day. It begins at 7 a.m. and ends at noon at the Battleship Missouri Memorial, Pier Foxtrot-5, on Ford Island at Pearl Harbor. Participants will run a 3.2-mile route around Ford Island that will include views of the USS Missouri, Arizona and Utah.
After the race, awards will be presented aboard the USS Missouri.
Military and civilian teams of any number will be able to run or walk the relay to complete the five-hour event. All team participants are required to submit a signed entry form before the day of the relay. Each participant will receive a T-shirt and a commemorative "Plank Owner" certificate for this inaugural event. Registration forms are available online at www.ussmissouri.org/relay or www.runnershi.net. Crews must pick up their registration packets tomorrow or Sunday, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. at Runners Hi in 'Aiea (98-390A Kamehameha Highway). Packets will not be available on the day of the event.
Civilian vehicles with a valid race number and photo ID for all adults in the vehicle will be permitted onto Ford Island, within Pearl Harbor Naval Base, on the day of the event, beginning at 5 a.m. Car pooling is strongly recommended. Because of security measures, any vehicle that leaves Ford Island will not be allowed to re-enter.
The event is being sponsored by the Surface Navy Association. Proceeds will benefit the USS Oklahoma Memorial Foundation.
